Bula Vanaka!
Well we have made it as far as Fiji.... annnnd its pissing down with rain hahaha.
Beautiful landscape, green rolling hills, blue lagoons, resorts... everything it looks like in the brochure, just sopping wet :p
Flight from Auckland was not too bad, couple of vodka and oranges later. Chicken curry for lunch on rice.
Flight staff so friendly! smile slapped from one cheek to the other, A+ for service.
Coming into Fiji was a bit bumpy! Kyz blood pressure lifted dramatically :s
Its 29 degress and a sticky 100% humidity on the island. We were "transfer" flyers from Auckland so our baggage in getting sent through (hopefully) to L.A. So 6 hours in Fiji Duty Free :)
Kyz managed to pick up a replica All Black jersey in Auckland duty-free!!! cheap as chips! dunno what all the fuss is about...
As i write this sitting on a plastic seat on a furnware-esk table, watching Kylie trying to communicate with the lovely Fijian lady at the food stall, smack bang in the middle of the building. It becomes clear to me that the easiest way to converse with the locals is by simply talking louder and pointing.
Failing that, smash the place up!!
mmmmm Fiji Gold, an interesting blend of coconut and dog testicles, not the tui that i am used to, 1 whole tui in every bottle and all!! At least Fiji Gold is less filling, it says so right here on the bottle!
So, what to do in this little slice of paradice... drink beer, eat hot dogs (which actually contain real dog, its the little differences!) and maybe try and sneak out onto the tarmack and direct a few planes???
By the way, when the airport sign says "WIFI, at Fiji International Aiport, WIFI is free", what you dont expect is to have to pay $5.00 per 30 minutes for 30MB.... free???
Maybe we can kill some time in the "muzik" shop, I am thinking no considering I am not sure wether that is a typo, or they think thats how the white devil spells music.
Or on the other hand (and conviently right nextdoor) is Beach Culture, with only the "B" light functioning correctly, occassionally the L in culture trys to grab hold of what clearly is a limited power supply to the shop! I'm fairly certain the cash machine screen iscardboard with vivid writing on it, and the teeny tiny fijian lady who is serving (who says child labour isn't benefical to all Fijians, keep up the good work FRANK!) is making "bee boop" noises when she pushes the imaginary buttons...
Do I trust the chicken burger, the answer to that is a resounding no!
As you sit there reading this thinking to yourself, how negative! Quite the contrary, I would love to bring Kylie and Carys back here and stay at a 5 star resort, over the deep blue, with all the luxuries of home at my fingertips :) Low budget in this place... not an option folks.
Even the cute little video, blasting from the screen (one every 4 rows i might add) gives me the impression that if you cant stab a shark in the face or take a coconut to the head from 10+ metres, then F**K OFF!
Thus ends this little chapter of our journey, we landed at 4:15 and it is now 4:53, any progress is good progress i spose :)
See you in cyber space peeps!
Love you Carys xoxoxoxoxoxoxo Mummy and Beanie
PS an hour later and you should see the treasures we've found in the airport! holy moly the Fijians are sex mad, it's hilarious. There are sculptures for sale EVERYWHERE, Megs you need one of these!! Kyz xx
